Your Service Dog Journey
Working Dog Path
This is bigger than obedience — you’re building independence, safety, and freedom, one rep at a time. Here’s your map, your support, and your reminders that this hard thing is worth it. 🐾
Remember why you started 💛
On the hard days, come back to this — in our own words, and in members’ stories:
Doing life on your own terms, with your partner beside you.
Your dog has your back — literally.
The world opens back up, one outing at a time.
Moving through the world with confidence, not fear.
Your permission slip 🌿
Training a service dog is a marathon. Read this whenever it feels like too much — and hear us (and other handlers) talk it through:
Rest is part of the plan, not a failure. A calm handler trains a calm dog.
Progress isn’t a straight line. A stuck week is not a lost cause — it’s the middle of the story.
Five good minutes beats an hour of depleted. Small and consistent wins this.
You’re not behind, and you’re not alone. Message Kendall — that’s exactly what we’re here for.
You don’t do this alone
Join us every month for the Fireside Chat — real talk, real questions, a room full of people who get it.

A service dog is built in this order. You’re never behind — you’re somewhere on this road.
1 · Foundation — rock-solid obedience
Before the world, master the basics at home.
- Get the mindset · Name & attention · Calm & impulse control
- Sit · Down · Stay · Recall
- Leash foundations · Off-leash · Automatic skills
- Crate · Potty · Separation confidence · BAT for confidence
2 · Public Access — calm & invisible in the world
Build up one place at a time. → Open the Public Access Library
- Level 1: pet-friendly stores, bathrooms
- Level 2: clothing stores, doctor’s offices, rideshare, public transit, hotels
- Level 3: grocery, restaurants, theaters, museums, parks, concerts
- Level 4: airplanes, places of worship
Know your rights first: Service Dog Laws & Ethics · Flying with Your Service Dog
3 · Task Training — the work your dog does for you
Your task library is being built: Scent Work · Mobility Aid · Medical Response · Psychiatric · Hearing Alert & more. While you wait, the best thing you can do is make Foundation + Public Access bulletproof — that’s what every task is built on.
